Substance Abuse
We offer an array of substance abuse services. Whether you are in need of an evaluation/referral, drug or alcohol testing, or outpatient substance abuse treatment, we can help. We have experienced clinicians who can provide quality, confidential services. We contract with Northern Michigan Substance Abuse Services (NMSAS) and are therefore able to provide free or low cost services to those who are eligible. We also accept many insurances.
Do I Have a Problem?
Determining if you or someone you know has a substance abuse problem can often be difficult. Often if use of alcohol or other drugs, whether legal or illegal, causes problems in your life, it is felt to be a problem. There are several screening tools that can be used to determine if a problem is present.
There are varying degrees of substance abuse problems: Misuse- The intentional use of a substance to reach intoxication., Abuse- Use of a substance that leads to family, occupational, social and even legal problems. And Dependence- Use of a substance to the point where a tolerance is developed, some withdrawal symptoms may be present upon abstinence, and where there is unpredictability over the ability to control/moderate use. Bingeing- A sporadic use of a substance to excess.
Outpatient Treatment
Sessions can be scheduled one on one, with a counselor to accommodate your schedule. A full assessment will be done to determine areas of concern and individualized goals will be set to address those specific needs. Frequency of appointments can be adjusted up or down depending on need and severity of issues. This is a covered benefit for a variety of insurance companies. If income criteria is met NMSAS Block Grant or Medicaid dollars can fund this service.
One Time Substance Abuse Assessment
A thorough assessment of an individual’s substance use history is conducted to determine the degree of a problem. A full narrative report is compiled, as well as recommendations for treatment, including level of care needed. The fee for this service is $80 and is not covered by insurance companies.
Driver’s License Evaluation
This service is appropriate for those who are eligible for the return of their driver’s license following revocation due to alcohol or drug offenses. A thorough assessment is completed and the necessary forms per the Michigan Drivers License Appeal Board are completed. Those requesting a Driver’s License Evaluation are required to take a 10 panel drug test at a lab prior to the assessment. They should also bring all records pertaining to dates of driving offenses, classes/counseling completed, as well as letters of support to the appointment. The fee for this service is $120 to be paid at the time of the evaluation. This service is not covered by insurance companies.
SAP Evaluation and Refferal
This service is provided for those work under the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol Regulations and have violated the policies. Employers are required to refer any employee that violates for a S.A.P. Evaluation. A thorough evaluation of substance use history and mental health issues is conducted. Based on the findings of the evaluation, recommendations are then made. The S.A.P. provider monitors the compliance with the recommendations and communicates this to the employer.
The fee for the S.A.P. Evaluation is $500 and is not insurance billable.
Drug and Alcohol Testing
Drug and Alcohol testing is available on a walk in or by appointment basis. We currently can do a Breathalyser test for a fee of $7.00.
