Youth Services

Adolescence is frequently a difficult stage for most families. It can be a stormy and troubled time. A period of change, transition and growth. The primary goal is to help teens and their parents through these crisis periods so they can stay together and/or reunite whenever possible.

  .
  Services include:
Assisting youths, individually and in groups, to deal with their concerns and develop decision making skills.
Counseling youths and parents to help them communicate effectively to solve problems together.
Consultation with other youth-related services and agencies.
Informing youths and their parents of appropriate community resources.
Providing a wide range of preventative services, including presentations on youth-related issues.

  .
  Youth Emergency Services:

Counseling services are offered to young people age 14 to 17; with focus on communication, problem solving, keeping families together, and keeping young people out of the Juvenile Court System. Services are delivered in the schools.

  Camp Iknowme

Camp Iknowme is a coordinated effort, headed by FCS, that brings together more than 12 community partners to provide up to 12 court referred at risk youth with a unique summer camp experience. Designed to be experiential in nature, each day is filled with different approaches and activities to engage the youth and develop a therapeutic environment within the group setting. The purpose of the camp is to provide a variety of approaches to situations where these youth have been known to struggle, and to create an environment that allows them to transfer these skills to their personal lives. Volunteer service opportunities allow the youth to give back to the community. Weekly field trips are intended as a fun way to expose the youth to a variety of positive social activities available within Midland County since many of the youths have a lot of time on their hands during the summer break with little adult supervision during the day. FCS hopes that Camp Iknowme will be a chance for campers to see their community in a new light and provide them with exposure to exciting opportunities. We are optimistic that the effects of their camp experience will radiate out from their lives to their immediate family, neighborhood, and the Midland Community.
